ADAM GLAM – Lets you express yourself.

The iconic Fiat 500 and Mini has got a new rival: Vauxhall's all-new Adam city car. The Vauxhalls smart looks and pick ‘n’ mix personalisation makes it a great alternative to a Mini or Fiat. When I went to my local Vauxhall garage I went with an open mind but knowing that Vauxhall have really upped their game with the Ampera and the Astra VXR.

ADAM at Stoneleigh Abbey - Well worth a visit

My Test drive was arranged by Andrew Parry from my local Drive Vauxhall – Leamington Spa, on a typical British day… unpredictable not knowing if it was going to rain. My first impression of the ADAM on the forecourt was that it looks young and it’s a fresh design that will grow on you.

The test car was the Adam Glam which sits between the Jam and Slam models, odd names but different. The side profile is smart with its white floating roof against the purple pearlescent paint and a smart set of 17 inch Roulette Alloys. The attention to simple details from the chrome roofline trim, side badging and white front grille bar is effective. Andrew said most cars have been sold to woman but it can be made manly pending on the way you configure it. The base price of the 1.4i 16VVT Glam is £12,975. Options of  a style pack, IntelliLink touch screen infotainment and a coloured front grille bar bumps the price to £14,695.

The Adam is filled with tech, such as its city steering button, climate control and its infotainment system which has a nice display. The city steering lightens and sharpens the steering making it easy to do tight turns or park in tight spots. The Adams interior is as personal and pleasant as the outside as you can change anything from the dash trimming to the headliner. I really liked the glass roof and comfy seats. The interior of the Adam is the same quality as any of its German rivals which could cost £100’s more.

ADAM Dash could of come out of an Audi! Well done Vauxhall.

The Adam was great on the road; it glided nicely over bumps and swerved lightly into corners with great traction. The 1.4i Adam is nice and nippy, offering a claimed  51.4mpg  which is modest and reflects the engine is not the latest generation. The most economical choice is the 1.2i 16v. You can get Stop/Start technology as an option that saves more fuel by switching the engine off when you stop in traffic.

Sitting in the front was comfy and spacious but space in the back wasn’t great as it is relatively tight for anyone over 5ft 8inches. The news is the same for the boot, boot space is tight and with a highish lip which could make access difficult. However both rear seats fold down to offer lots more space but this isn’t a car you would be going to Ikea in to pick up the flat-pack. Vauxhall are planning to release an Adam with a turbo charged engine, which should perk it up.

My test drive included country roads and a visit to Stoneleigh Abbey where we got some nice pictures. Even though the Adam is a modern car it looks great in any location from city to an Abbey it looks cool!

ADAM - Fun even on a grey day

The Adam is really fresh and modern; it is a great alternative for a Fiat or Mini. As a supermini car the Adam is ideal, as it is small, fun and relatively economic but still offers pick ‘n’ mix personalization that makes it unique to you. I would consider this as an option for a future car as I think its perfect for young drivers needs. ‘Say hello to Adam’ as I predict this car could be very popular for many teens and twenty something year olds. Like all Vauxhalls, ADAM is covered by a Lifetime Warranty up to 100,000 miles.

Limited Boot Space  - but rear seats have split fold                             Smart Infotainment

Customizing your Adam Glam, Slam or Jam is easy as there are thousands of combinations literally at your fingertips. Customization is easy to do but difficult to decide with so many choices. After minutes of scratching my head this is the Adam I designed:

This is a great car I would rate is 4/5 Stars **** due to its personalization, fun and uniqueness.

Thanks to Drive Vauxhall -Leamington Spa for letting me review the funky Adam and to Stoneleigh Abbey for allowing the location shots.

Beating stiff competition including the Alfa 4C, Jaguar F-Type, Renault Clio and the new Range Rover, Vauxhall’s stylish urban newcomer was selected by a jury of respected motoring journalists from around the world. The award is part of a trade show in Stuttgart, Germany for concepts, materials, surfaces, fabrics and components in vehicle interior equipment.

Elizabeth Wetzel, Interior Design Director for the newcomer, is especially pleased with the Vauxhall ADAM’s victory: “The individualisation of the interior is one of the ADAM’s many outstanding traits. Our small lifestyle car offers almost 82,000 combinations for interior-styling. The EXPO AWARD is a wonderful tribute to the whole Opel/Vauxhall design team.”

Nice Design - but just a bit too yellow!

UPDATE ADAM NEWS 19th June 2013

New ADAM is first car in class that you can ask: ‘Are we nearly there yet?’

  • ADAM now available with revolutionary Siri Eyes Free iPhone Integration

  • First car in its class with Internet access via voice activation

  • Free IntelliLink update for Siri in ADAM models manufactured before June

  • Ownership experience enhanced with downloadable radio and navigation apps.

As if the ADAM’s multi-million configurations weren’t headline-grabbing enough, Vauxhall has today revealed that it will be the first car in its class that drivers can hold a conversation with, allowing them to give voice commands and receive a verbal response from the car itself.

When fitted with the innovative IntelliLink infotainment system, ADAM is now available with full integration for Siri Eyes Free, the unique intelligent assistant from Apple that helps you get things done whilst driving just by asking.

Using a steering wheel-mounted button, customers with a compatible iPhone1 running iOS 6 can direct Siri Eyes Free to perform a number of tasks while they keep their eyes on the road and their hands on the wheel. This is more than traditional voice activation: you can speak to Siri Eyes Free in ADAM in a conversational tone, just as you would with a friend.

To minimise distraction, Apple and Vauxhall have taken hands-free functionality even further by using Siri Eyes Free mode to interact with an Apple device using nothing more than the driver’s voice. The device screen does not display the Siri text conversation while using the feature in ADAM; this is one of the important safety measures Apple and Vauxhall took during the integration development to ensure the upmost focus on safety.

Siriis available free of charge in all IntelliLink-equipped ADAMs which are ordered from today. Customers who already own an ADAM with IntellilLink can also benefit from Siri Eyes Free, via a free update available from next month. The innovative IntelliLink system can be continually updated throughout the customers’ ownership to ensure in-car infotainment is just as up to date as their mobile communication. Updates are available for ADAM owners through their nearest Vauxhall dealer.

To start sessions with Siri in Eyes Free mode, ADAM owners simply connect their Apple iOS device with the IntelliLink infotainment system via Bluetooth, pair with the system, and use the steering wheel voice activation button. Siri Eyes Free can be activated while other apps such as BringGo continue running in the background. Music or nav directions are automatically muted during this time.

In the Vauxhall ADAM equipped with the IntelliLink infotainment system, owners can use Siri Eyes Free to:

  • Make voice-activated, hands-free calls to Contacts on their iPhone

  • Play chosen songs in their iTunes libraries without having to spend time scrolling through menus – and therefore being distracted while driving

  • Listen to, or compose and send an iMessage, text message or mail to a phone number or anyone in saved Contacts

  • Access Calendar and add appointments, read incoming notifications as well as configuration for alarm and notification settings

  • And, of course, Siri also answers simple questions such as game scores, weather or the dates of national holidays

  • Many capabilities for ADAM’s IntelliLink infotainment system

Vauxhall’s new IntelliLink infotainment system, which made its debut in ADAM, is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, as well as Android devices. The full scope of options IntelliLink offers in ADAM also includes TuneIn, a global radio access app, BringGo, a navigation app, and Stitcher, a global podcast internet radio app. IntelliLink brings the connectivity and functionality of smartphones safely inside the car via a seven-inch, high resolution, full colour touch-screen display with Bluetooth or USB connections. IntelliLink, the ultra-modern infotainment system, can therefore be as personal to use as the content kept on an iPhone or Android device. At the same time, Vauxhall IntelliLink is an affordable system, costing just £275.

Standard infotainment for ADAM JAM, ADAM GLAM and ADAM SLAM is a CD 3.0 BT system with radio and CD players, featuring DAB and Bluetooth to enable hands-free calling and USB connections. And the whole infotainment system can be further enhanced with an impressive Infinity Sound System including eight loudspeakers.
